Re: My Asbestos Encapsulation Experience

Thank you!  I would be interested to learn more about Wayne Wheeler’s article on asbestos.   He may want to highlight for those considering similar action that NHDES, although some exemptions for homeowners in NH (only if they do the work themselves and if they are not selling or renting their property) there are still requirements for procedures and disposal.  In addition, it is critical the proper training, PPE, respiratory protection and other engineering controls be used to prevent migration of fibers to other areas in the home and family members.  HEPA vacuums are needed, wet methods, and good post decontamination.  

Encapsulation is technically not the correct term also.  Encapsulation is a spray applied material to help bind fibers on a surface.  The application of a covering would be classified as “repair” in the state and federal regulations.
