PROGRAM TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING THE AWI QSI MANUAL AND SECTION 400 - ARCHITECTURAL CABINETS
An introduction and a tutorial for all architects and specifiers on the use of The Architectural Woodworking
Institute’s Quality Standards Illustrated ( AWI-QSI), Eighth Edition to specify architectural cabinetry.
(Attendees will receive a copy of this manual.)
• Participants are exposed the full scope of architectural casework design, selection, and fabrication
choices. Topics include selecting the style of cabinet, shelf loading, finish materials, and drawer
construction. Edge treatments, case joints, and countertops are explored.
• Participants learn to take control of woodwork quality; understand the cost effectiveness of the Quality
Certification Program and the transfer of liability from the Designer to the Woodworker.
• Review the use of Section 400 for specifying wood veneer and plastic laminate millwork.
SPEAKER: William A Munyan, AIA, CSI, CDT, AWI Quality Certification Corporation
William Munyan is the immediate Past President of the Architectural Woodworking Institute (AWI) Quality
Certification Corporation, a member of the AWI technical committee and A member of the AWI’s Joint
Standards Committee creating the new “Architectural Woodwork Standards” which is combining both AWI
Quality Standards Illustrated and the WI Manual of Woodwork, and a member of AIA MASTERSPEC review
committee.
Bill is the past Secretary/Treasurer for CSI’s South East Region, a Past President of the Charlotte Chapter of
CSI and a registered Architect. Until last November, Bill had been responsible for the production of
architectural specifications for a national architectural firm in Charlotte, NC producing work for Healthcare,
Justice and Senior Living studio’s for over twenty years. Bill has taught the CSI certification programs for
Construction Document Technician (CDT) and Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) for the
Charlotte Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) for over eleven years.
